Living up to that quote every day is something to aspire to, but not always easy. StockHop can’t help you be a better person, but we can help you make a difference when investing. You may never have heard of a Certified B Corporation, but you probably are familiar with some of the companies who’ve completed the certification process including Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, and Etsy. So, what does this kind of company look like, here’s a description from the certifying organization B Lab’s site:

Certified B Corporations are a new kind of business that balances purpose and profit. They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment. This is a community of leaders, driving a global movement of people using business as a force for good.

A lot of the B Corps are privately held, but there are some publicly traded companies that have been certified — you can look them up on the B Lab corporation directory. The B Corporation movement started in 2007 and today there are over 2,500 Certified B Corporations in more than 50 countries.

Still reading, well just to make sure we’re all on the same page, here’s a handy chart that illustrates the difference between a B Corp and a Benefit Corporation which is a far less stringent, self-reported certification only available in certain locations.
